The present invention relates to a device for protecting the perineal area of a woman during delivery, which comprises a support band with an elongated central section and a plurality of lateral fins extending from the corners of the same and possessing a rounded edge section. Also, it includes an adhesive layer on one side of the support tape and a back sheet covering and allowing separating it from the adhesive layer. The elongate central section configures to its placement in the perineum. The support tape possesses the ability to expand in a single direction, thus preventing uncontrolled muscle tear, during the dilation of the woman tissues on labor or at least reducing the severity thereof. The perineal protection device further comprises an additional tape disposed on the elongate central section to restrict the extent of the tissues in the vicinity of the anus.
