Pharmaceutical compositions (A) for local application to stop bleeding, close wounds and/or stimulate wound healing, contain fibrinogen (I) or fibrin (Ia), thrombin (II) and one or more transglutaminases (III), also at least one serpin-type protease inhibitor (IV) that has no inhibitory action on collagenases or elastases, are new. All active ingredients are of allogenic origin (isolated from plasma or tissue, or recombinant) and have been subjected to a virus removal and/or inactivation step, provided that virus inactivation of (IV) is not done in presence of other active ingredients. Independent claims are also included for the following: (a) preparation of a (I)-containing solution, as such or as part of (A), that can be stored at refrigerator or room temperature (b) pharmaceutical compositions (B) containing a highly purified (I)- or (I) plus fibronectin-containing composition that has activated prothrombin time and Taipan viper venom prothrombin time at 37[deg]C of at least 200 and 300 sec, respectively (c) a method for preparing pathogen-free (A) (d) a method for covalent binding of (A) to a biological matrix (e) a method for preparing a (Ia)-containing gel of 20-90% water content (f) a method for solidifying a (Ia)-containing gel with or without removal of water (g) a freeze-dried (Ia)-containing gel to which a plasticizer, particularly glycol, has been added before solidification and freeze-drying (h) a method for producing a high viscosity (I)-containing solution and (i) a method for determining the adhesive capacity of a fibrin clot to a wound bed.
