The invention relates to a gaseous anesthetic composition based on xenon for use by inhalation for maintaining or preserving cerebral perfusion during an endarterectomy with clamping of the carotid artery under general anesthesia in the mammal. Preferably, xenon is used in combination with at least one injectable morphine anesthetic agent, such as remifentanil, sulfentanil, fentanyl and alfentanil. Advantageously, the xenon is mixed with an oxygen-containing gas and administered to the patient after the patient has been anesthetized, asleep and intubated. The use of xenon makes it possible to obtain a decrease in the pressure gradient during the clamping of the internal carotid with respect to the usual anesthetic agents, as well as a stable hemodynamics.L'invention concerne une composition anesthésique gazeuse à base de xénon pour une utilisation par inhalation pour maintenir ou préserver une perfusion cérébrale pendant une endartériectomie avec clampage de l'artère carotide sous anesthésie générale chez le mammifère.
