Systems and methods for providing feedback during manual joint positioning include computer-aided medical devices. The computer-aided medical device includes an articulated arm including a joint and a control device coupled to the articulated arm. The control device may be operable to determine a position of the joint during manual positioning of the joint by determining a target position for the joint, determining the kinematics of the joint with respect to the target position, and providing feedback based on the kinematics of the joint.
