The surgical handpiece includes a shell, a channel having an irrigation conduit, and a sensor housing. The channel is coupled to the shell such that the proximal end of the channel is located at the proximal end of the shell and the distal end of the channel is located near the distal end of the shell. The 10 sensor housing has an irrigation channel extending through its interior. The sensor housing has a seal interface at one end.
