PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the size of a capsule endoscope.
SOLUTION: In an imaging element of a capsule endoscope, a signal output portion 12 and a photoelectric conversion portion 14 are superimposed in plan view. Therefore, in comparison with, for example, a structure in which a signal output portion and a photoelectric conversion portion are not superimposed, a projection area can be reduced. Thus, the imaging element is reduced in size. As a result, the capsule endoscope capable of capturing color images, which is equipped with the imaging element, is reduced in size.
