A method of reducing the loss of ammonia and odor from organic material or waste into the atmosphere, comprising: supplying air or polluted air to a plasma generator using an electric arc discharge, electrostatic field, nano-pulse electric field, dielectric barrier discharge, laser, radio or microwave radiation or any combination thereof, to obtain a concentration of 0.1-12 vol.% NO in air by direct fixation of nitrogen; feeding this NO-containing air to the absorber and absorbing NO absorbing th liquid in the absorber with the formation of a nitric acid solution containing nitrates and nitrites; and the supply of nitric acid solution to organic material or waste, whereby the pH is adjusted to 4-6, and nitrates and nitrites bind volatile ammonia and ammonia-containing components in or from organic material or waste in the form of nitrate and nitrite ammonium salts. 2. The method according to claim 1, wherein the nitric acid solution is passed through a scrubber to absorb ammonia from the ventilation air contaminated with ammonia from organic material or waste.
