The present invention relates to a method and system to aid radiologists in morphological feature extraction using circular mesh based shape and margin descriptor (CMSMD) for the automated lesion detection in breast DCE - MRI. Accordingly, a novel automated lesion detection method includes, receiving at least one image for lesion detection. Segmenting, at least one region of the received image as a lesion detection candidate region and generating a boundary outline delineating a region within the image corresponding to the candidate region. Meshing, the candidate region with a circular mesh to define a plurality of cells on the candidate region for labelling meshed cells in the candidate region. Extracting, morphological features of the meshed cells region, wherein the morphological features being representative of shape and margin of lesions in the meshed region. And determining the presence of lesion based on the extracted morphological features and classifying lesion as benign or malignant.
