PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide dietary compositions and methods for reducing risk of developing hyperthyroidism in a feline.SOLUTION: The compositions and methods restrict the amount of selenium intake or restrict the amount of selenium and iodine intake in a feline. In an embodiment, the compositions and methods based upon the compositions can involve dietary compositions comprising from about 10% to about 40% or from about 20% to about 40% protein on a dry matter basis.
