The present invention relates to a novel compound and a process for the preparation of deubiquitylating (DUBs) inhibitors. In particular, the present invention relates to the inhibition of ubiquitin C-terminal hydrolase Ll (UCHL1). The present invention also relates to the use of a DUB inhibitor in the treatment of cancer and other indications. A compound according to the present invention includes a compound represented by the following formula I, or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, wherein R 1 to R 8 are as defined in the present specification.
