The present invention is an improvement over the conventional methods used for separation and purification of the antibiotics. The present invention provides a novel adsorbent for the closed circuit fluidized bed processes, unexplored in the art. Accordingly, the invention discloses a cost effective process for separation and purification of Rifampicin antibiotic using dried roots of Hedychium spicatum as adsorbents in a closed circuit fluidized bed through process optimization.
