PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fundus photographing apparatus for more precisely focusing on the fundus.SOLUTION: The fundus photographing apparatus includes: a fundus illuminating optical system for illuminating the fundus of a subject eye a split index projection optical system which is equipped with a light source for projecting a pair of optical split indices to the fundus and adjusts a matching state of a split index on the fundus by using a focusing lens provided to be movable in an optical axis direction by a drive mechanism a fundus photographing optical system which is equipped with an imaging device for imaging the fundus and the split index and a monitor for displaying the fundus and split index imaged by the imaging device. The fundus photographing apparatus further includes: a detecting means which detects a matching state of split indices obtained in the fundus photographing optical system and a control means which generates an electronic indicator showing the matching state of the split indices on the basis of the detection result of the detecting means and causes the monitor to display the electronic indicator together with the fundus.
