A method of reducing power consumption in a pressure (vacuum) regulator system by waking the regulator upon detection of a persons hand proximity prior to adjustment of a pressure controller, including: defining a sampling time-window to sample a pressure in the pressure regulator system generating a random number of pressure samples within the defined sampling time-window acquiring data of the randomly generated number of pressure samples within the defined sampling time-window adjusting the defined sampling time-window in response to a triggering of a proximity sensor and wirelessly transmitting the data to an output device.
