PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To recognize a region from a scout image (a scanogram) of an X-ray CT apparatus and to set a condition for photography (a protocol) suitable for the region.
SOLUTION: The region is automatically recognized from the quantity of geometric characteristics of the scout image (the scanogram), and at least one or a plurality of characteristic points are extracted. The region of the subject is automatically recognized based on the characteristic points, and the condition for photography (the protocol) suitable for the recognized region is set or adjusted from among previously registered conditions for photography (protocols). Alternatively, a candidate for the condition for photography (the protocol) suitable for the region is recommended, and the operator can be made to select or adjust the condition. Accordingly, the accuracy of setting of the condition for photography is improved, and as a result, the useless exposure caused by the false setting of the condition for photography can be prevented. Furthermore, the standby time for photography can be reduced by the efficient setting of the condition for photography.
