PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a portable digital tomosynthesis imaging system and a method.SOLUTION: The system 10 includes a portable X-ray source assembly 12 and a portable detector assembly 14. The source assembly can be coupled to a portable power supply and controller 34 so that multiple projection X-ray images can be obtained at a site that is not accessible by conventional tomosynthesis imaging systems. Image data can be transmitted from a detector 22 by wired or wireless communication. Tomosynthesis image reconstruction can be performed locally at the portable system 10 or remotely by transmitting raw or filtered image data from the portable system.
