Beam forming assembly comprises: a retarder for slowing down the neutron generated in the target to energy of the epithermal neutron energy range, a reflector enclosing the retarder, wherein the reflector directs the diverting neutron back to the retarder to increase the intensity of the epithermal neutron beam, thermal neutron absorber configured to absorb thermal neutrons in order to avoid overdose in the superficial healthy tissue during therapy, a radiation shield located in the rear part of the reflector around the output of the beam for screening of leaky neutrons and photons in order to reduce the dose for healthy tissue in the non-irradiated region, as well as the output of the beam.
