A method for stocking items into drawers of adispensing unit. The method comprises providing a liner anda plurality of adjustable dividers. The dividers arearranged within the liner to form a preselected arrangementof bins. Different types of items are placed into the binsand an identification device is attached to the liner whichincludes information identifying the arrangement of thedividers and the types of items held in the bins. The lineris placed into the drawer, wherein the dispensing unitincludes a reader which reads the information from theidentification device.
