PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a photoacoustic apparatus and a probe which can confine scattered light from a specimen into the specimen while reliably preventing photoacoustic waves being generated from a receiving element region of the probe by the scattered light.SOLUTION: The photoacoustic apparatus obtains information on the specimen by receiving photoacoustic waves 8 which are generated from the specimen resulting from light irradiated to the specimen. The apparatus includes a light source 3 for irradiating light to the specimen and an acoustic wave receiver having a receiving surface opposing to the specimen, a light reflection member 6 and a receiving element 9 for receiving the photoacoustic waves provided in order from the specimen side in the receiving surface.
