The present invention relates to an apparatus, as a wearable device, for measuring a PPG signal by using a photodiode under an index fingertip to determine a breathing state and measure a breathing rate with improved accuracy by using a PPG signal pattern through processing and analysis of extracted data, and a method thereof. The apparatus comprises: a PPG measuring device measuring a change in a blood flow rate by irradiating light to a predetermined measurement body part and sensing reflected light to generate a PPG signal； a type analysis part detecting a peak of breathing in a PPG signal pattern through processing analysis of the PPG signal measured in the PPG measuring device； and a breathing detection part detecting breathing based on the peak of breathing detected in a pattern of the PPG signal analyzed in the type analysis part.본 발명은 웨어러블 디바이스로 사용하려는 방안으로 검지 끝 아래에서 포토다이오드를 이용하여 PPG 신호를 측정하고 추출한 데이터의 가공·분석을 통한 PPG 신호 패턴을 이용하여 정확도가 개선된 호흡 상태를 판단하고 호흡수를 측정하는 장치 및 방법을 제공하기 위한 것으로서, 소정의 측정 신체 부위에 빛을 조사하고, 반사되는 빛을 감지함으로써 혈류량의 변화를 측정하여 PPG 신호를 발생하는 PPG 측정기와, 상기 PPG 측정기에서 측정된 PPG 신호의 가공 분석을 통해 PPG 신호 패턴으로 호흡의 최고점을 검출하는 유형 분석부와, 상기 유형 분석부에서 분석된 PPG 신호의 패턴으로 검출된 호흡의 최고점을 기반으로 호흡을 검출하는 호흡 검출부를 포함하여 구성되는데 있다.
