A method for selecting a contact lens for an eye of a subject, comprising the following steps: determining a radius of curvature on the most flat meridian of the cornea of the eye； 0 to about 6.0 diopters； determine the sagittal depth of the cornea of the eye and select a contact lens having an optical zone with a radius of curvature equal to the sum of the sagittal depth of the cornea and a distance of from about 0.05 mm to about 0.25 mm. 2. The method of claim 1, wherein selecting the contact lens comprises selecting a contact lens having an optical zone with a curvature that is greater than the curvature of the flattest meridian of the cornea of the eye by a value of from about 2.0 to about 6.0 diopters. The method of claim 1, wherein selecting the contact lens comprises selecting a contact lens having an optical zone with a curvature that is less than about 2.0 to about 6.0 diopters than the curvature of the flattest corneal meridian of the eye. The method of claim 1, wherein selecting the contact lens comprises selecting a contact lens having an optical zone with a curvature that varies from curvature on the flattest meridian of the cornea of the eye by a value of from about 3.5 to about 5.5 diopters. The method of claim 1, wherein selecting the contact lens comprises selecting a contact lens such that when the contact lens is mounted on the eye, a fluid volume of from about 0.05 cubic mm to about 0.3 is maintained between the cornea of the eye and the contact lens cubic mm. 6.
