To provide methods for regulating immune reaction and test substances useful for the same.SOLUTION: The invention relates to regulation of nerve growth factor receptor p75expressed on plasmacytoid dendritic cells. Agonists and antagonists of p75signaling are useful in production of drugs for controlling cytokine functions, antigen presentation, and activation and proliferation of lymphocytes. Such drugs are important for treating various conditions including cancer, inflammatory conditions, immune disorders, growth disorders, infections and any other conditions involving p75signaling. The invention provides assays to screen for a range of agonists and antagonists of p75useful in modulating cytokine function, activation and proliferation of lymphocytes.
