The present invention relates generally to the use of agents for treatingor preventing or otherwise ameliorating the effects of inflammatory conditionssuch as but not limited to chronic immune-mediated inflammatory diseasessuch as arthritis. Specifically, the invention relates to the use of an agentwhichinhibits the activity of granulocyte-colony stimulating factor (G-CSF) orgranulocyte-colony stimulating factor receptor (G-CSFR) for the treatment orprophylaxis of arthritis in a subject, wherein said agent is (i) an antibodyraisedagainst G-CSF or G-CSFR, or (ii) a soluble G-CSFR. The invention alsoprovides the use of a DNA or RNA sense or antisense polynucleotide sequencewhich reduces the level of expression of a gene encoding G-CSF or G-CSFRfor the treatment or prophylaxis of arthritis in a subject.
