The subject matter of the invention relates to the use of a composition comprising at least one oxide and/or hydroxide insoluble in an aqueous environment, preferably selected from silicon dioxide (SlO2), titanium dioxide (TlO2), aluminium oxide (AI2O3) and aluminium hydroxide (Al(OH)3), magnesium oxide (MgO), to reduce absorption of the ethanol ingested through the consumption of alcoholic beverages. The invention also comprises the use of food products comprising these mixtures for the aforesaid use.
