A formulation for providing an active agent is disclosed. The formulation comprises a carrier comprising the active agent and mineral coated microparticles, wherein the active agent is adsorbed on the mineral. Other formulations include carriers that include mineral-coated microparticles, where the mineral-coated microparticles include an active agent.
