To provide an absorbable resin particle that has little variations in absorption performance, particularly water capacity, is excellent in variation coefficient of absorption characteristics under pressure and has a high degree of whiteness excellent in variation coefficient and a low residual monomer amount excellent in variation coefficient and to provide a method for producing the absorbable resin particle.SOLUTION: The absorbable resin particle has the surface of a crosslinked polymer (A) which comprises as essential constitutional units a water-soluble vinyl monomer (a1) and/or a vinyl monomer (a2) which becomes the water-soluble vinyl monomer (a1) by hydrolysis and an internal crosslinking agent (b) subjected to surface crosslinking with a surface crosslinking agent (d). The absorbable resin particle has an average of the water capacity of 30 g/g or more as measured at the number of analysis points N=100 and has a variation coefficient of the water capacity of 3% or less as calculated from an unbiased standard deviation and the average.
