PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a beauty treatment instrument which sets an appropriate electrical reference value according to a users skin color to enable accurate detection of skin abnormalities such as spots regardless of skin color.SOLUTION: The beauty treatment instrument comprises: a skin stimulator 3 including a stimulation surface coming in contact with a skin surface to impart stimulation a skin stimulation source 116 for imparting a physical beauty treatment stimulation to the skin stimulator and a skin abnormality sensing part 88 for optically sensing a skin surface abnormality. The skin abnormality sensing part includes: a light emission part 138 for projecting examination light onto a site to be measured of the skin surface and a light reception part 139 for receiving examination light reflected off the skin surface and outputting an electrical output value according to the amount of received light. The beauty treatment instrument is configured to determine the condition of the skin surface by comparing the electrical output value of the light reception part with the electrical reference value. The beauty treatment instrument includes a storage part 177 to store the electrical reference value. If the amount of receive light is more than the reference light amount indicated by the electrical reference value, the beauty treatment instrument stores the electrical output value as a new electrical reference value.
