The invention relates to anti-.alpha.2 integrin antibodies and their uses.humanized antibodies are disclosed that bind tothe I domain of .alpha.2 integrin and inhibit the interaction of.alpha.2.beta.1 integrin with collagen. Also disclosed are therapeutic uses ofanti-.alpha.2integrin antibodies in treating .alpha.2.beta.1-mediated disorders, includinganti-.alpha.2 integrin antibodie s that bind to .alpha.2 integrin withoutactivatingplatelets.
