The present invention relates to a system for maintaining freshness of a vegetable, wherein the system comprises a vegetable freshness device adapted to sense the concentration of at least one gas generated by the vegetable and converting the sensing result into an electrical signal and communicating the electrical signal to a microprocessor, the microprocessor adapted to receive the electrical signal from the vegetable freshness device and discriminating conditions of the vegetable and outputting a control signal in accordance with vegetable condition discriminating result and a means for keeping the freshness of the vegetable, the means for keeping the freshness adapted to receive the control signal from the microprocessor and controlling at least one physical parameter within a predetermined range for keeping the freshness of the vegetable.
