At the transplant stage, the germinated seedling must be removed from its container and buried at the selected site to mature. This container has an array of root guiding cusps each terminating in a root guiding aperture for the emergence of a lateral root and is made of a material which decomposes in wet soil as the seedling matures after transplanting. A method of transplanting is described in which both container and seedling are buried in order to minimise disturbance of the root ball. The container is made of biodegradable cellulosic waste or PLA. The volume may be 51 but for large scale use the volume is one litre or less.4/7 14 FIGURE 4
