An augmented reality imaging system for cosmetic surgical procedures. In a breast augmentation procedure, a virtual breast image is generated and overlaid on a target marker covering a patients real breasts such that the patient can see her real body with virtual breasts at the location of her real breasts. The patient views this augmented reality image on a mobile device such as a tablet computer. By use of low polygon graphics and a set of artistic sliders on the mobile device, a surgeon can manipulate and deform the virtual breasts in real time to produce lifelike outcomes of various surgical options.
