A mirror for an ophthalmic laser treatment apparatus that can move on an axis from a position in the treatment laser beam path to a position outside the treatment laser beam path. The mirror reflects light from the light source into the patient's eye. The mirror is biased towards a position in the path and is moved out of the path by the actuator only as long as necessary for the laser treatment to be applied, with little interruption to the user's observation.
