A composition comprising benzodiazepine and at least one moisture absorbent excipient (especially lactose and \/ or dextran) is provided. The present inventors have found that a stable freeze dried formulation can be obtained in the formulation of a mixture of benzodiazepine and hygroscopic excipients and \/ or when the lyophilized formulation is at least partially amorphous .
