The present invention provides an apparatus and method for obtaining one or more portions (micro grafts) of a living tissue to form a graft. For example, a hollow tube can be inserted into the tissue at the donor site, and the pin provided in the tube can facilitate control of micro-graft removal from the tube. The micrograft can be harvested through the joint operation of the tube and the pin and can be implanted directly into the biocompatible matrix laid on top. A needle may be provided in the vicinity of the tube, which may facilitate direct implantation of the micrograft into a distant receiving site or matrix. An exemplary apparatus can include a plurality of tubes and pins for simultaneously collecting and implanting a plurality of micro-grafts.
