PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a novel composition for suppressing the production of matrix metalloprotease and / or suppressing the production of inflammatory cytokine, and an applied product thereof. A composition for suppressing matrix metalloprotease production and / or suppressing inflammatory cytokine production, which contains proanthocyanidins as an active ingredient. As the proanthocyanidins, lotus root-derived proanthocyanidins are preferable. The composition is excellent in matrix metalloprotease and inflammatory cytokine production inhibitory action, and has little toxicity and irritation to the human body. Therefore, it can be used for applications such as cosmetic compositions and functional foods.
