An object of the present invention is to provide a new Mandevilla genus plant having a flower color of a new color that could not be produced so far. A carotenoid pigment is extracted from the petals of a candidate Mandevilla plant, and when neoxanthine or a derivative thereof is present in the carotenoid pigment extract, it is selected as a parent Mandevilla plant.これまでに作出できなかった新たな色調の花色を有する新規マンデビラ属植物を提供することにある。 候補マンデビラ属植物の花弁からカロテノイド色素を抽出し、該カロテノイド色素抽出液中に、ネオキサンチン又はその誘導体が存在する場合には、親マンデビラ属植物として選定する。
