The invention provides an absorbent article comprising an absorbent member having a web of hydrophilic, crimped continuous fibers and a fiber accumulated layer or a nonwoven fabric superposed on the upper or lower side of the web, the fiber accumulated layer or the nonwoven fabric being made of natural pulp and/or synthetic fibers and containing or not containing a superabsorbent polymer, the continuous fibers being oriented in the planar direction of the absorbent member, and the web having a superabsorbent polymer embeddedly supported therein.
