A clot capture catheter comprises an elongate tubular shaft having a proximal end, a distal end, and an expandable expandable member at the distal end. The expandable member is inflatable from a flat application configuration to an expanded configuration. in the expanded configuration, the expandable member extends to define a funnel shape having an enlarged distal clot inlet mouth at the most distal end of the catheter. In the expanded configuration, the expandable member may extend distally beyond the most distal end of the shaft.
