SOLUTION: ID information identifying the animal is generated from the image of the animal. A reference profile of the appearance of the animal is provided and the animal is aligned with the contour by scaling and / or shifting based on user input or by changing field of view upon imaging. The image is then analyzed to detect the marking of the animal and ID information is generated comprising marking data representing the nature of the detected marking including the position relative to the contour of the detected marking and the size and shape of the marking. A language expression of ID information is also generated.
