PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide sterilizer having high bactericidal properties.SOLUTION: The sterilizer includes a non-mercury bactericidal lamp having a discharge vessel enclosed with xenon gas and iodine vapor and an AC power source for driving lighting of the non-mercury bactericidal lamp. The discharge vessel is formed of quartz glass which transmits ultraviolet light at least in a wavelength region of 178 [nm] or longer, including the region of emission wavelengths of iodine atom (I*) of 178 [nm] to 188 [nm] and 206.2 [nm].
