To provide a walking assist device which prevents a sudden loss of a supporting force, although the device supports the weight of the user with an output of a motor and due to a switching operation error by the user.
SOLUTION: The walking assist device 10 includes a thigh unit 20, a lower-thigh unit 50 connected swingably to the thigh unit 20, the motor 42, and a load sensor 96. The thigh unit 20 is attached to the thigh of the user and while the lower-thigh unit 50 is attached to the lower-thigh of the user. The motor 42 controls a swing angle of the lower-thigh unit 50 to be a given target angle. The load sensor 96 detects a load given to the sole ON the side where the walking assist device 10 is attached. The walking assist device 10 includes further a switch 18 which is operated by the user for turning the control of the motor 42 on/off. The walking assist device 10 does not turn the control OFF in the case when the load detected by the load sensor 96 is larger than a predetermined threshold when the switch 18 is turned OFF.
