PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for modulating nematode infestation in a plant, using a composition produced by an isolated strain of a Chromobacterium.SOLUTION: Provided is a method for modulating nematode infestation in a plant, comprising applying to plant or other objects to be treated a whole cell broth of an isolated strain of a new Chromobacterium species, Chromobacterium subtsugae sp. nov. (accession number NRRL B-30655), or a supernatant, filtrate or extract of the whole cell broth, or a composition selected from a mixture of two or more of these in an amount effective to modulate the nematode infestation. Also provided is a method for modulating root-knot nematode infestation in a plant, comprising applying the composition to plant or other objects to be treated in an amount effective to modulate the root knot nematode infestation.
