The apparatus 10 includes a tub 13 having a wall 13B carried on a trailer 11 with at least one mixing auger 14 mounted in the tub 13 standing upwardly from the base 13C with 5 a peripheral flight 16 for rotating about an upstanding axis and carrying a plurality of cutting members 18 extending outwardly. A pair of adjustable restricting plates 20 is carried in respective slots on the peripheral wall 13B of the tub 13 at diametrically opposite positions at a height on the peripheral wall 13B aligned with said at least one mixing auger 14 and movable inwardly and outwardly of the wall 13B. Each of the 10 plates 20 carries an elongate magnet along its innermost edge so as to be spaced from and separate from the wall 13B of the tub 13 for attracting and collecting metallic materials in the feed.
