A staple cartridge is disclosed. The staple cartridge includes a cartridge body including a staple cavity and staples removably received in the staple cavity. The staple cartridge further includes a firing member configured to eject the staple from the staple cavity. The staples and staple cavities include features that reduce the frictional thrust between the staples and the staple cavities as the firing member ejects the staples from the staple cavities. Each staple includes a base comprising a drive portion and a staple leg extending from the base, and in at least one example, each staple cavity is positioned within the cavity as it is ejected from the staple cavity. Proximal and distal guides configured to guide the staple legs of the staples.
