The invention generally relates to an oral care composition. More particularly, there is described the use of a saccharide derivative of α,α-trehalose in the preparation of an oral care composition for preventing dental caries. The saccharide derivative of α,α-trehalose may be a non-reducing oligosaccharide composed of one α,α-trehalose residue having a mono-glucose residue, a di-glucose residue, a tri-glucose residue, or a tetra-glucose residue bound to one or both ends thereof.
