PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light source device of an endoscope which prevents influences caused by heat generated by illumination light when a rotary shutter abnormally halts during an examination.
SOLUTION: The light source device 12 is equipped with a light source 35, the rotary shutter 37, a motor 38, a motor driver 39, a rotation detecting sensor 40, a diaphragm adjusting mechanism 41, a diaphragm driver 42, and a CPU 45 for controlling them. The rotary shutter 37 rotates by the motor 38 driven by driving pulses outputted from the motor driver 39. The CPU 45 detects the abnormal halt of the rotary shutter 37 from the output of signals by the rotation detecting sensor 40. The CPU 45 activates the diaphragm adjusting mechanism 41 to keep the light quantity of the illumination light from the light source 35 at an allowable limit value or lower.
