The present invention provides a surgical lamp for illuminating a surgicalsite. The surgical lamp includes a housingthat defines an internal cavity. A light source is disposed within theinternal cavity of the housing for producing a light field ata surgical site that is remote from the housing. A voltage sensitive device isdisposed between the light source and the surgicalsite. The voltage sensitive device has light transmissive properties thatchange in response to a biasing voltage applied thereto.Control means control the biasing voltage to the voltage sensitive device.
