Disclosed is the use of ethyl eicosapentaenoate in the preparation of a medicament for treating hypertriglyceridemia in a subject identified as having a fasting baseline triglyceride level of about 200 mg/dl to about 500 mg/dl and as being allergic to fish or seafood, wherein said medicament composition contains substantially no docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) or derivative thereof, and less than about 1%, by weight, of proteins, if any, and wherein the medicament does not cause skin rash or wherein the subject experiences reduced incidence of skin rash compared to placebo or to an equivalent milligram dose of a commercially available prescription omega-3 fatty acid composition.
