A tilt anvil assembly is disclosed which includes a center rod, a headassembly, and atorsion spring configured to pivot the head assembly relative to the centerrod. The headassembly has a locking collar defining a locked position preventing pivotalmovement of thehead assembly, and an unlocked position allowing pivotal movement of the headassembly. Thetorsion spring selectively engages the locking collar to maintain the lockingcollar at either thelocked or unlocked position.
