A safety needle assembly includes a hub (80) having a proximal end forconnection to a syringe and a distal end, a cannula (40)provided with a lumenand having a proximal end connected to the distal end of the hub (20) and abeveled distal end, and a collar (50) formed separately from the hub (20) andmounted on the hub (20) in a rotationally fixed manner, with the collar (50)including a sheath (80) mounting portion. A removable protector is positionedover the cannula (40) and covers the beveled distal end of the cannula (40). Asheath (80) having an opening is pivotally connected to the sheath (80)mounting portion of the collar (50) and is positioned outside the protectorwhen the protector is positioned over the cannula(40).
