PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an improved spinal tissue distraction device.SOLUTION: The spinal tissue distraction device 136 includes an elongated member which has a pre-deployed configuration for insertion between tissue layers and a deployed configuration in which the elongated member, by change of configuration, forms a support structure 141 for separating and supporting layers of spinal tissue. The distraction device 136 can also substantially decrease extravasation by limiting and guiding movement of the material which has fluidity. In the deployed configuration, the elongated member forms a support structure 141 including the inherent volume between tissue layers by change of configuration. Desirably, the elongated member is comprised of a shape memory material having inherent trend to form the shape of the support structure 141.
